$156.4 Million Worth of Business Deals Sealed During the 20th Edition of Dubai Derma

July 8, 2021 by ramind17

Number of Visitors Exceeded Expectations and Reached 27,236 Visitors

Dr. Hassan Galadari: “The effect of the COVID-19 Vaccine on Fillers Injected in the Face Is Extremely Rare and Uncommon”

Dubai- United Arab Emirates, 8 July 2021: The 20th edition of Dubai World Dermatology and Laser Conference and Exhibition ‘Dubai Derma’, was successfully concluded today at the Dubai World Trade Center.

Under the theme ‘Skin Health is our Concern’, the annual global skincare gathering in Dubai, brought together leading skincare specialists, top surgeons and physicians from across various countries under one roof to explore the latest technology advancements and medical treatments for different types of skin diseases.

Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani, Executive Chairman, Dubai Derma and Chairman of INDEX Holding said: “The success of ‘Dubai Derma’ is a reflection of the UAE’s pioneering position as the ideal place to hold conferences, exhibitions, and world-class meetings. We are very proud of the success the 20th edition of ‘Dubai Derma’ has witnessed, as the number of visitors exceeded the expected number and reached 27,236 visitors from 110 countries, and it gives us immense pleasure to announce that the event concluded with over $156.4 Million worth of business deals signed over the past three days, which is a 15% increase from the 19th edition. This confirms that ‘Dubai Derma’ is not only considered an instrumental event for professors, doctors, lecturers and specialists, but it is also a significant platform for international, regional and local companies and brands to seek and nurture business opportunities and long-term partnerships and connections.”

He concluded: “this monumental success would not have been possible without the support ‘Dubai Derma’ has received throughout the years. I take this opportunity to thank our key stakeholders in the government and private sectors, and presidents of the world’s leading dermatology associations, exhibitors and speakers for their invaluable support in making Dubai Derma a grand success.”

Dr. Hassan Galadari, Head of Scientific Committee, Dubai Derma Conference said: “We have witnessed a substantial increase in cosmetic procedures, the period after the lockdown. We believe this increase was due to the fact that people were surprisingly looking at themselves more often, especially on computer screens during repeated online meetings. As it is quite known, lighting, camera quality, the angle where it’s placed, and many other factors play a huge role on how our image is captured, thus, distorts how a person actually appears. This has led to a misconception of perceived defects that has fed the increase of cosmetic procedures.”

He continued: “The increase we have seen were more related to the under-eye area. Patients were hyperaware of their fine lines, hollowness and dark circles, made even worse by stress or changes in sleeping patterns.”

While commenting on the COVID-19 vaccine’s association with dermal fillers, Dr. Galadari said: “The effect of the COVID-19 vaccine on fillers injected in the face is extremely rare and uncommon. The concern of swelling of injected areas should not be a cause for refusing to get the vaccine.”

He concluded: “The effect is mainly a slight swelling of the injected area, and it shouldn’t cause any concern as it is a natural response. Vaccines affect the body’s immune response. This effect on the immune system makes it react to areas where foreign materials are present. This is an uncommon reaction that is transient and can be easily treated. Interestingly, hypertension medications known as ACE inhibitors seem to reverse the reaction. So, get your vaccine shot.”

Furthermore, the third and last day of ‘Dubai Derma’ conference discussed many key topics such as Artificial Intelligence in Dermatology, Filler Injections, Controversies in Laser Hair, Laser Therapy for Pigmented Lesions, and much more.

Dubai Derma is annually organized by INDEX Conferences and Exhibitions, a member of INDEX Holding, in cooperation with the Arab Academy of Dermatology and Aesthetics (AADA).

Dubai Derma 2019 Continued on the 2nd day

March 19, 2019 by ramind17

Dubai – United Arab Emirates, 19 March 2019: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of the Dubai Health Authority, the 19th edition of Dubai World Dermatology and Laser Conference and Exhibition – Dubai Derma, continued on the 2nd day at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, with a special focus on anti-aging, acne management and the future of dermatology practice.

The 3-day skincare gathering, running until the 20th of March 2019, under the theme ‘Skin Health is our Concern’, brings together top-notch skincare specialists, surgeons and industry experts with the aim of exploring new advances in treatments for various skin disorders while also focusing on the impact of new age technologies on preventing major skin diseases including skin cancer.

Commenting on the occasion, Dr. Suzanne Olbricht, MD, Associate Professor of Dermatology, Harvard Medical School and Immediate Past President, American Academy of Dermatology, said, “The American Academy of Dermatology and Dubai Derma share the same common goal which is enabling dermatologists in the UAE and the world to offer the best possible care to their patients.  In order to achieve this goal, dermatologists need to keep themselves abreast with the most up to date information and sophisticated education targeted specifically at the needs of all attendees.  Currently, the field of dermatology is in the midst of great transformation and the most remarkable advances in the past 3 years have occurred in the field of biologics and other new medications that treat many chronic and difficult diseases such as ‘psoriasis’ and ‘atopic dermatitis’ to name a few. In addition, we also focused on new targeted therapies for some of the worst skin cancers.”

She added, “The scientific program of Dubai Derma is well constructed with great lectures on the most trending topics in skin health. On the sidelines of the conference at AAD symposium, I shared new details for effective and easy nail biopsies while in another session I discussed the future of dermatology referencing my three favorite words:  disruption, relevance and aspiration. Moreover, my talk was intended to put the spotlight on the future of dermatological practice and particularly about where dermatology is headed in the next few years.”

Commenting on his topic, ‘Can we Prevent Aging’, Dr. Chris Griffiths, MD, UK, said, “Recently, the latest research into skin aging has shifted from its traditional approach of looking through the prism of anti-aging to one towards linking skin health to overall health of an individual. This is clearly a departure from what used to be a reactive process towards skin care to one that is essentially proactive. Prevention of aging or at least a slowing of the process is associated with changes in lifestyle, a good daily skincare regimen, exercise, good dietary habits, plenty of sleep coupled with a smoke-free lifestyle and targeted therapies for a healthy, vibrant skin. At Dubai Derma, we focused our attention on ways to allow natural skin aging rather than premature skin aging.”

On the second day, world renowned experts in skincare discussed a number of important topics related to skin health such as: Change and the future of Dermatology, Cutaneous Manifestations of Targeted and Immunotherapies in Cancer Treatment, Innovations in Vitiligo Surgeries, Acne Management, Potential of molecular based diagnostics and its impact on immunotherapy of psoriasis, Hand dermatitis What’s new, Change and the Future of Dermatology, Rare Case of Scalp Tumor and Is there still place for Antibiotics in Acne’ among other topics.

Although there are proven risks associated with sun exposure to skin cancer and studies also show that Ultraviolet UV radiation from the sun is the number one cause of skin cancer, recent studies show that optimum levels of Vitamin D from sun promote healthy bone growth, helps in skin cell growth, repair and metabolism, facilitates good immune system, helps provide resistance against certain diseases and even prevents skin aging.

This comes, as a recent two-year Dubai Health Authority (DHA) Study in the UAE shows that an estimated 90 percent of the UAE population are vitamin D deficient, as more people become sedentary, spend less time outside, consume excess caffeine and do not take enough supplements that contain vitamin D in their diet.

Running parallel to the conference, the Dubai Derma exhibition continued to offer visitors and participants a great opportunity to learn about the latest breakthrough technologies that are being used in treating major skin diseases while also giving leading skincare brands, technology firms and companies from the region and the world a chance to engage and network with top notch experts in skin health.

Dubai Derma, is organized by INDEX Conferences & Exhibitions – a member of INDEX Holding, in cooperation with the Pan Arab League of Dermatology, Arab Academy of Dermatology & Aesthetics (AADA), American Academy of Dermatology, (AAD), European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) and GCC League of Dermatologists with the support of the Government of Dubai and Dubai Health Authority (DHA).

His Highness Sheikh Hasher Bin Maktoum Al Maktoum Inaugurates Dubai Derma 2019 Today

March 18, 2019 by ramind17

Dubai – United Arab Emirates, 18 March 2019: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of the Dubai Health Authority, His Highness Sheikh Hasher bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, Director General of Dubai Department of Information inaugurated today, the 19th edition of Dubai World Dermatology and Laser Conference and Exhibition – Dubai Derma, the largest scientific skincare gathering in the Middle East, North Africa and the Indian Subcontinent, at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center. Being held under the theme ‘Skin Health Is Our Concern’, the 3-day premier global skincare gathering running until the 20th of March, 2019, aims to shed light on the latest skin treatment options and advances that are critical to maintain optimal skin health.

Following the opening ceremony, HH Sheikh Hasher bin Maktoum Al Maktoum accompanied by a high-profile delegation comprising senior government officials, leading skin health specialists, industry figures and experts toured the exhibition area, where they were briefed about the latest advances in delivering effective skin care and the most recent breakthroughs in technology that is proving helpful in curing challenging skin disorders.

Dubai Derma 2019 presents a rich comprehensive agenda, where 291 world renowned skin care experts offer their key insights on the most crucial skin care challenges facing patients during 272 scientific sessions spread over 3 full days. Additionally, the conference includes 79 hands-on workshops to enhance the clinical expertise of dermatology professionals and specialists while 77 poster display presentations and 112 case studies are designed to encourage students and professionals to pursue research in dermatology.

Speaking about the key highlights at Dubai Derma 2019, Dr. Ibrahim Galadari, Chairman of the Dubai Derma Conference and Professor of Dermatology at the UAE University said, “This year Dubai Derma features great discoveries in therapeutics for very common skin conditions such as vitiligo, atopic dermatitis and alopecia areata, which recently made headlines in Dubai. These skincare concerns will be highlighted tremendously with exclusive information that was announced at the annual AAD meeting in Washington DC 2 weeks ago.”

He added, “The latest edition of Dubai Derma is even more special as we have the presence of many international and well recognized dermatology societies involved in various scientific sessions. As Dubai is home to more than 200 different nationalities, it is extremely important for local and regional doctors to raise awareness about maladies that may afflict those coming from different parts of the world. The representation from the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa in Dubai Derma is key to disseminating this crucial knowledge and information across the globe.”

Commenting on latest edition of Dubai Derma, Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani, Executive Chairman, Dubai Derma, said, “The UAE is home to one of the most developed healthcare industry in the GCC, with a robust healthcare spending and state-of-the-art infrastructure in the region. This is largely a result of UAE’s landmark achievements in boosting its healthcare offering, maximizing benefits to citizens and medical tourists and creating a high quality, patient centered healthcare system. Moreover, Dubai in particular is leading the UAE by offering a superior, comprehensive and integrated healthcare service in diverse fields of medical disciplines including dermatology and skin care.”

He added, “In its current edition, Dubai Derma Conference and Exhibition brings together top skincare specialists, leading dermatology experts, surgeons and industry leaders to exchange knowledge on the latest advances in treating various types of skin diseases and disorders. This year, we witnessed a remarkable increase in the size of the exhibition which occupies an overall space of 20,000 square meters and attracts 594 leading skin care brands and companies showcasing their latest products and services. This clearly reflects the confidence reposed by the dermatology industry in Dubai Derma and I hope all attendees will take best advantage of this event.”

Commenting on the occasion, Dr. Hassan Galadari, Professor of Dermatology at the UAE University, Consultant Dermatologist and Head of Scientific Committee, Dubai Derma: “Dermatology is an evolving specialty. What used to be cutting edge 3 or 5 years ago, is now the norm. Dermatology is the only specialty where technology sometimes precedes the evidence-based science behind it. That’s why it is important to look at any of these technological advances critically. Dubai Derma, by bringing in experts from around the world, helps us achieve this level of critical thinking. I believe that the success of this international meeting is not limited to its vast exhibition space showcasing latest technologies but also includes the immense scientific knowledge that is disseminated during many scientific sessions.”

He further added, “Safety is a key component for us. Recently, a number of therapeutic agents have been discovered but still the major issue remains, what are the guidelines to treat major skin conditions. Even when it comes to matters related to surgeries, it is extremely important to recognize the potential danger zones to avoid pitfalls and subsequent complications”.

On his part, Dr. Abdul Wahab Al Fouzan, President of the Arab Academy of Dermatology and Aesthetics/ Pan Arab League of Dermatologists, said, “Dubai offers the world’s best infrastructure and health care services to its residents and this is only possible with the extraordinary support, focus and consistent efforts of our wise leadership and senior representatives in the health care industry. We are highly confident that top conferences and symposiums such as Dubai Derma provide a great opportunity for knowledge enhancement and upgradation of skills of health care professionals in the GCC and the wider Arab world.”

He added, “With the advent of digital technology, today all information related to the transfer of highly scientific medical knowledge, medical records, diagnosis and treatment updates are conveyed via electronic means but conferences such as Dubai Derma are extremely important to engage in face to face conversations with doctors and exchange insights on ways to overcome the most pressing challenges in the industry. “

He further commented, “There is no doubt that Dubai Derma is of great benefit to all groups of doctors, graduates and postgraduate doctors as well as specialists and consultants in the skincare industry. The conference includes a number of training and educational programs that will greatly benefit students and professionals in their scientific and clinical practice as well as provide them access to CME points.”

The bidding vote is set to take place during this year’s edition of World Congress of Dermatology, in Milan, Italy between the 10th and 15th of June.”

He added, “Among the key factors which makes Dubai the best venue to host the World Congress of Dermatology is its strategic location, accessibility by air, land and sea routes, abundance of hotel options, modern convention center, membership of ‘Best Cities Alliance’, great shopping experience, pristine beaches, excellent leisure and entertainment options as well as its position as a business hub and a key destination for providing safety and healthcare services.”
